Position Overview
With millions of electric vehicles, extensive home charging deployments, more than 50,000 Superchargers, and thousands of destination charging sites worldwide, Tesla is accelerating the transition to sustainable energy through intelligent electric mobility solutions. This role focuses on advancing the Tesla Electric retail electricity platform by leveraging large-scale data, machine learning, and optimization to enhance customer charging experiences while minimizing operational costs.
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will build models, algorithms, and data systems that enable smart charging decisions aligned with grid conditions, energy prices, and sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and monitor KPIs for the Tesla Electric program.
- Analyze fleet-level energy consumption and charging behavior using statistical modeling and machine learning.
- Generate actionable insights to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
- Design and implement algorithms to optimize EV charging schedules based on cost, grid demand, and renewable energy availability.
- Build scalable data pipelines and analytical tools to support global operations.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and energy market teams to implement data-driven solutions.
- Communicate complex analytical findings clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong programming skills with solid foundations in data structures and algorithms.
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, modeling, and machine learning.
- Advanced SQL skills with relational databases.
- Experience building data pipelines using Spark and Airflow.
- Familiarity with agile development environments.
- Demonstrated quantitative projects (e.g., GitHub repositories, publications, or technical blogs).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with utility tariffs, electricity markets, or energy systems modeling.
- Background in optimization, operations research, or control systems.
- Experience working with large-scale time-series or IoT data.
- Knowledge of distributed computing and cloud-based data infrastructure.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $104,000 – $348,000 annually
Additional compensation may include cash bonuses, stock awards, and comprehensive benefits.
