[Remote] Freelance Mechanical / Product Engineer – Espresso Machine–Based Hardware Prototype

Job Description

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. LouCanette is developing a new hardware product based on an espresso machine system, and they are seeking an experienced mechanical or product development engineer. The role involves designing and building a working prototype from scratch, focusing on functional prototyping and collaboration with the founder.

Responsibilities
• Design and engineer a functional espresso-machine–style system (pressure, heating, flow, safety)
• Develop mechanical architecture and component layout
• Create CAD files and technical drawings
• Select materials and off-the-shelf components where appropriate
• Build and iterate on a working physical prototype
• Produce a Bill of Materials (BOM)
• Collaborate on design decisions with a strong focus on reliability and user experience

Skills
• Proven experience designing espresso machines, coffee equipment, or similar pressure/heating systems
• Strong mechanical engineering background
• Hands-on prototyping experience (not CAD-only)
• Familiarity with pumps, boilers/thermoblocks, valves, pressure systems, and safety considerations
• Experience taking products from concept → working prototype
• Experience with small-batch manufacturing or DFM
• Electrical / controls knowledge (or ability to collaborate with an EE)
• Experience working with overseas manufacturers (China, etc.)
