Location: Columbia, Maryland (Primarily Remote – Occasional Onsite)
Contract: 12-Month Contract (Potential Full-Time Conversion)

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to support a major Federal Healthcare Insurance organization. This role focuses on backend engineering, platform enhancements, and maintaining mission-critical systems used in healthcare operations.

This is a long-term opportunity with a collaborative team working on modern Java technologies, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise integrations.

Role Overview

You will work on internal enterprise platforms responsible for healthcare claims processing and related services. The role includes new development, system enhancements, production support, and releases within a cloud-enabled architecture.

While the position is mostly remote, the team meets 1–2 times per month onsite in Columbia, Maryland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance backend services using Java (Java 21 preferred)
  • Build enterprise applications with Spring Boot
  • Implement asynchronous messaging using Java Message Service
  • Work with cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services
  • Manage deployments and containers using Kubernetes
  • Maintain and query enterprise databases such as Oracle Database
  • Troubleshoot production issues and deliver fixes
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA teams, and developers
  • Participate in Agile sprint and release processes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or additional equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with:
    • Java development
    • Spring Boot
    • JMS
  • Strong experience with Oracle databases
  • Basic understanding of AWS and Kubernetes
  • SQL querying and debugging experience
  • Experience working in enterprise environments

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience in Healthcare Payor systems
  • Familiarity with healthcare claims formats:
    • 835
    • 837
    • X12
  • Experience with:
    • Angular
    • Python
    • Snowflake
    • CloudBees
  • Experience working with open-source Java tools such as:
    • Ant
    • Struts
    • JUnit
    • HTTPUnit

Work Model

  • Mostly remote
  • Onsite meetings 1–2 times per month in Columbia, MD
  • Must be located in the DMV region
