Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Java Developer to support a major Federal Healthcare Insurance organization. This role focuses primarily on backend development and involves working across modern Java technologies, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise systems.
The developer will contribute to new feature development, system enhancements, production support, and platform releases within the client’s internal systems.
This is a long-term contract opportunity with the possibility of converting to a full-time role.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot
- Support enhancements, bug fixes, and production troubleshooting
- Participate in system releases and deployment activities
- Work with messaging systems such as JMS
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA teams, and other developers
- Support SDLC processes and participate in Agile sprint cycles
- Maintain and improve system performance and reliability
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
or 4 additional years of relevant experience - 8+ years of hands-on Java development experience
- Strong experience with:
- Java (Java 21 preferred)
- Spring Boot Framework
- JMS (Java Message Service)
- Oracle Database
- Basic knowledge of:
- AWS Cloud
- Kubernetes
- SQL queries
- Familiarity with Java open-source technologies such as:
- Ant
- Struts
- XML processing tools
- JUnit / HTTPUnit
- SOA-based systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the Healthcare Payor domain
- Knowledge of healthcare claims formats:
- X12
- 835
- 837
- Exposure to:
- Angular
- Python
- Snowflake
- CloudBees
Work Setup
- Primarily remote
- Onsite meetings 1–2 times per month in Columbia, MD
- Candidates must be located in the DMV area
