Pay Range: $29.00 – $57.00 per hour (based on location, skills, and experience)
Role Overview
Join AWS as an Engineering Operations Technician and play a vital role in maintaining mission-critical data center infrastructure that powers global cloud services. In this hands-on role, you will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems to ensure exceptional uptime and reliability across AWS facilities.
Engineering Technicians serve as the frontline for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, supporting critical infrastructure such as generators, UPS systems, cooling systems, and building automation technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily facility rounds to monitor electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems.
- Operate and monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
- Troubleshoot facility and rack-level issues within defined service level agreements (SLAs).
- Install and decommission data center racks and equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, root cause analysis, and repairs on infrastructure systems.
- Support change management through technical documentation and reporting.
- Coordinate and supervise vendors, contractors, and subcontractors onsite.
- Execute projects from planning through completion.
- Participate in rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and on-call schedules as required.
Systems & Equipment Supported
- Standby diesel generators and fuel systems
- Three-phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPS, PDUs, batteries)
- Cooling infrastructure (CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, motors)
- Air handling and water treatment systems
- Fire detection and suppression systems
- Building automation and facility monitoring systems
Basic Qualifications
- 1+ year of electrical or mechanical experience
- 1+ year experience with Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to work flexible schedules (days, nights, weekends)
- Ability to travel or commute between data center locations as required
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of data center engineering or facilities experience
- Technical training (Military, Trade School, or equivalent)
- Associate degree or higher in a related field
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 39 lbs independently and assist with heavier loads
- Work at heights, on ladders, and in industrial environments
- Perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, and carrying equipment
- Work in environments requiring protective equipment (e.g., hearing protection)
