Company: Blitz
Location: Los Angeles (Playa Vista — onsite Mon–Thu, WFH Fri)
Salary: $170K – $220K + bonus + equity

Role Overview

Blitz is looking for a Data Director to lead the company’s data strategy, analytics, and machine learning initiatives across its gaming platform. This is a senior leadership role combining technical depth, strategic vision, and team management to drive player insights and platform growth.

You will shape how data is collected, processed, and used to enhance user experience, player performance modeling, and business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Strategy & Architecture

  • Develop and execute a company-wide data strategy
  • Define best practices for data architecture (data lakes, warehouses, cloud platforms)
  • Establish governance policies for data quality, privacy, and compliance

2. Analytics & Machine Learning

  • Analyze player behavior, engagement, and performance across multiple games
  • Build predictive models to forecast player outcomes
  • Create frameworks for comparing player performance across genres and titles

3. Data Engineering Oversight

  • Lead development of scalable ETL pipelines and infrastructure
  • Ensure reliability, availability, and performance of data systems

4. Leadership & Collaboration

  • Build and mentor a high-performing data team
  • Partner with product, engineering, design, and marketing stakeholders
  • Define KPIs to measure impact of data initiatives

5. Innovation

  • Stay ahead of trends in gaming analytics, AI, and ML
  • Introduce emerging technologies to improve competitive advantage

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 6–10 years of experience across:
    • Data analytics
    • Machine learning
    • Data engineering
    • Team leadership
  • Strong skills in Python, R, SQL, Tableau/Power BI
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Gaming analytics experience (player behavior, balance, engagement metrics)
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA)
