The JLL-SKAE Data Center and Mission Critical Commissioning team is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer / Project Manager to serve as the Mechanical Group Lead, supporting the continued growth of mission-critical projects across North America.
This leadership role will act as the technical authority for mechanical, controls, and automation commissioning disciplines, guiding project execution while mentoring team members and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning activities for data center mechanical and controls systems including inspections, startup, and functional/integrated testing.
- Manage commissioning design reviews, specifications, and submittal evaluations.
- Coordinate field activities with contractors, engineers, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and project stakeholders.
- Develop commissioning plans, specifications, SOPs, and MOPs.
- Oversee L0–L6 commissioning scripts and procedures.
- Serve as the primary client contact for mechanical and automation commissioning scope.
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical escalation support.
- Support proposal development, project staffing, budgets, and financial tracking.
- Lead commissioning meetings and ensure QA/QC standards across projects.
- Manage seasonal and performance testing for mechanical cooling systems.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of experience commissioning data center mechanical cooling and automation systems.
- At least 3 years in a mechanical commissioning lead role, preferably on large (>25MW) facilities.
- Strong knowledge of ASHRAE commissioning guidelines and data center processes.
- Experience with chillers (air & water-cooled), CRAC/CRAH units, RTUs, AHUs, BMS/BAS platforms, and integrated controls.
- Proficiency with QA/QC and commissioning software (Autodesk Construction Cloud, CxAlloy, Facility Grid, etc.).
- Strong leadership, scheduling, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred:
- ABET-accredited engineering or technology degree.
- Commissioning certification from a recognized authority.
- PE (Professional Engineer) and/or PMP certification.
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 30–40% overnight travel across the United States and Canada (typically ≤2 weeks per trip).
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated salary: $175,000 – $225,000 USD annually (final offer based on experience and location).
