Location: Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania (USA)

Join the dynamic Engineering Operations team at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and play a critical role in maintaining the infrastructure that powers global cloud computing. As a Data Center Chief Engineer (CE), you will ensure that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems operate at peak efficiency, supporting millions of customers worldwide.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of global cloud infrastructure — including servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, security, and supply chain to deliver the highest standards of reliability, safety, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for all facility-related technical issues.
  • Oversee operations and maintenance of critical systems including switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution, chillers, cooling towers, CRAC units, and building monitoring systems.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting within established SLAs.
  • Train and mentor Engineering Operations Technicians (EOTs) and support team culture development with Facility Managers.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Support new facility construction, commissioning, and efficiency improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with IT and business leaders to optimize safety, performance, reliability, and capacity.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards for vendors and internal teams.
  • Prepare performance reports, benchmarks, and operational analyses.
  • Respond to emergency calls and support maintenance activities outside normal business hours when required.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 39 lbs independently and participate in team lifts over 40 lbs.
  • Work at heights (ladders), climb stairs, bend, crouch, and access equipment areas.
  • Work in environments requiring ear protection.
  • Travel or commute between data center locations as needed, including temporary assignments during training or site readiness phases.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • 3+ years of experience in mission-critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, military, public safety, etc.) involving electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience reading and writing technical documentation, procedures, and engineering drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data center engineering or operations experience.
  • Construction or project management exposure.
  • Experience leading technical teams in operations and maintenance environments.
  • Comfortable working in physically active industrial environments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $96,000 – $166,300 USD annually (depending on experience, qualifications, and location).
  • Additional compensation may include sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units (RSUs).
