Position Summary

MEI Rigging & Crating is seeking a skilled Web Developer to design, develop, and maintain web applications, intranet portals, and websites for MEI and its subsidiaries. You will ensure compatibility, usability, and accessibility across devices and platforms, while optimizing for performance and search engine visibility.

This is a remote position with flexible hours across multiple time zones, ideal for someone with strong PHP, JavaScript, database, and web application development skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain MEI’s intranet portal and subsidiary websites using modern content management and digital tools.
  • Develop and optimize databases supporting web applications and ensure secure data handling.
  • Evaluate code for structure, validity, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Collaborate with management and team members to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions.
  • Perform Help Desk support for website-related issues.
  • Implement and maintain website security measures, including firewalls and content encryption.
  • Conduct code reviews, participate in code releases, and follow SOPs.
  • Assist in server maintenance and recommend software/hardware requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of current web technologies and programming practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate Degree in Computer Science, Web Design, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional web development experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • PHP (OOP PHP 5/7)
    • JavaScript (ES5 & ES6), AJAX, HTML, CSS
    • Responsive Web Design, REST, SOAP, JSON, XML
    • Database design & development (MSSQL, MySQL, other SQL)
    • Frameworks: Laravel, Angular, MVC
    • Libraries: RxJS, Eloquent ORM
    • Version control: GitHub
    • Linux, VS Code
    • WordPress, MS 365, SharePoint, MS Azure – helpful
  • Testing & Debugging: PHPUnit, Behat, Chrome/Firefox Inspector, Safari troubleshooting
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset; ability to interpret legacy code and maintain coding standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service mindset.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a dynamic environment.

Working Conditions

  • Remote-based work with variable hours across multiple time zones.
