Position Summary

MEI Rigging & Crating is seeking a skilled Web Developer to design, develop, and maintain web applications, databases, and interfaces for MEI and its affiliated company websites or portals. This role involves creating functional, user-friendly, and visually appealing web solutions, ensuring compatibility across multiple devices and web browsers, and optimizing web content for accessibility and SEO.

The ideal candidate is a versatile developer comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment, capable of reading and building on legacy code, and experienced with modern web technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain MEI’s intranet portal and subsidiary websites.
  • Develop and manage databases that support web applications and websites.
  • Evaluate code for validity, structure, and browser/device compatibility.
  • Collaborate with management and team members to prioritize requirements and resolve conflicts.
  • Perform Help Desk duties to assist end-users with troubleshooting.
  • Implement ongoing website revisions, updates, and enhancements.
  • Clearly articulate website specifications, including software, functionality, programming languages, and hardware requirements.
  • Conduct code reviews and participate in release processes per company SOPs.
  • Assist in server setup and maintenance; evaluate hardware/software needs.
  • Implement and maintain security measures, including firewalls and content encryption.
  • Work remotely and manage tasks across varying time zones.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: High School Diploma required; Associate degree in Computer Science, Web Design, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience considered.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of web development experience; professional experience with PHP (OOP PHP 5/7), JavaScript (ES5/ES6)/AJAX, HTML, CSS, Regular Expressions, Responsive Design, REST, SOAP, JSON, XML.
  • Database: MSSQL, MySQL, and other SQL databases; relational database design and development.
  • Frameworks & Tools: Laravel Framework, Eloquent ORM, Angular, TypeScript, RxJS, GitHub, Linux, VS Code, MVC frameworks.
  • Additional Software: MS 365, SharePoint, MS Azure, WordPress (helpful).
  • Testing: PHPUnit and behavioral testing libraries (Behat preferred).
  • Skills:
    • Ability to read and enhance legacy code consistently.
    • Knowledge of SQL statements (SELECT, UPDATE, INSERT, DELETE).
    • Strong debugging skills with browser developer tools (Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
    • Excellent time management, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Clear verbal and written communication; customer service mindset.
    • Independent, proactive, and able to work across multiple priorities.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Fully remote; may work varying hours across multiple time zones.
  • Primarily desk-based work using computer, keyboard, mouse, and other necessary hardware/software.
  • Frequent use of internet, Teams, email, and collaborative tools.
