Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and business-minded US Employment Counsel to join our Legal team in a fully remote capacity. The ideal candidate will provide strategic legal advice and day-to-day counsel on employment law matters across all 50 states, supporting a fast-paced and growing organization with a distributed workforce.
This role requires deep expertise in federal and state employment laws, exceptional judgment, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with HR, Legal, and executive leadership. You’ll help ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and foster a fair, inclusive, and legally sound work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide practical, solution-oriented legal guidance on all aspects of US employment law, including hiring, performance management, compensation, terminations, remote work policies, wage & hour, leaves of absence, ADA, and workplace investigations
- Advise on employee relations matters, workplace complaints, and internal investigations in collaboration with HR and Employee Relations teams
- Draft and review employment-related documents, including offer letters, separation agreements, employment policies, and handbooks
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments across U.S. jurisdictions and proactively update internal stakeholders on relevant changes
- Support compliance initiatives (EEO, FMLA, FLSA, etc.) and DEI strategies
- Partner with the People team on HR processes, manager training, and workforce planning
- Manage outside counsel in employment litigation, arbitration, and agency matters (EEOC, DOL, etc.)
- Collaborate with the global legal team on cross-border employment matters and global employment policy alignment (if applicable)
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school and active bar membership in good standing
- 5–7+ years of experience practicing U.S. employment law, with a mix of in-house and/or law firm experience
- Expertise in multistate employment law issues and experience supporting remote-first or distributed teams
- Strong understanding of wage and hour law, employment-related risk management, and leave administration
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust across functions
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with strong judgment and discretion
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-growing, tech-forward or startup environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience advising on global employment law or international workforce considerations
- Experience in SaaS, tech, or high-growth startup environment
- Working knowledge of compliance training, whistleblower programs, and policy rollout
- Experience with union avoidance, classification audits, or internal grievance procedures
