About the Role:
We’re seeking an experienced and strategic Staff Data Scientist specializing in Labor Economics to join our research and analytics team. In this role, you will lead the design and execution of data-driven studies focused on labor markets, workforce dynamics, wages, employment trends, and related public policy issues.

You’ll apply advanced econometrics and machine learning techniques to large-scale datasets to generate insights that guide both internal strategy and external stakeholders, including policy partners, workforce agencies, and product teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead high-impact research and analytics projects focused on labor market trends, wage dynamics, job mobility, skill gaps, and economic inequality
  • Design statistical and machine learning models using large and diverse datasets, including government records, company internal data, and real-time labor market information
  • Collaborate with economists, data engineers, and product stakeholders to translate business and policy questions into empirical analyses
  • Interpret and communicate complex labor economics findings to both technical and non-technical audiences through dashboards, papers, and presentations
  • Mentor junior data scientists and support peer review, reproducibility, and research quality
  • Publish white papers or contribute to public research outputs when appropriate

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Master’s in Economics, Labor Economics, Public Policy, Statistics, or a closely related field
  • 7+ years of experience in applied data science or economic analysis, with at least 3 years in labor market or workforce-focused research
  • Strong coding and data analysis skills in Python, R, and SQL
  • Expertise in econometrics, causal inference (e.g., DiD, IV, RDD), and survey/statistical modeling
  • Experience working with large structured datasets (e.g., CPS, ACS, BLS, LFS, administrative data, or employer-employee matched data)
  • Proven ability to write clear and impactful research summaries for executives, government, or academic audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with modern data science tools (Jupyter, dbt, cloud platforms, version control, MLflow)
  • Familiarity with labor policy, labor market regulations, or employment services is a plus
  • Publication record in labor economics or related applied fields is highly valued
  • Experience in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary research or policy environment
