The Sustainability Reporting, Enablement, and Governance (S-REG) team focuses on creating trusted, scalable, and lasting sustainability reporting infrastructure. We help Amazon businesses meet regulatory obligations and manage sustainability risks and opportunities effectively.

Role Overview

As a Sr. Sustainability Specialist, you will support Amazon’s global sustainability disclosure processes, ensuring high-quality regulatory reporting. You’ll partner cross-functionally with Legal, Finance, Accounting, and internal sustainability teams to collect key metrics, resolve reporting decisions, and draft disclosures. Your work will prepare Amazon for emerging regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and strengthen governance across our sustainability reporting processes.

This role requires individuals who are detail-focused, collaborative, and comfortable with ambiguity, capable of providing insights and driving improvements in sustainability reporting practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and evaluate emerging regulations; develop preparation plans.
  • Execute reporting processes, including double materiality assessments.
  • Design and implement governance mechanisms to ensure oversight and control of sustainability reporting.
  • Analyze performance against sustainability goals and draft performance narratives in collaboration with Finance, Accounting, Human Rights, and Social Impact teams.
  • Develop precise disclosures of Amazon’s calculation methodologies for voluntary and regulatory sustainability reporting.
  • Ensure disclosures meet external assurance standards and communicate metrics clearly (e.g., workforce demographics, workplace safety, diversity, skills development, HRIA results).

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in sustainability reporting, sustainability assurance, or legal fields
  • Deep knowledge of emerging sustainability regulations (CSRD, ESRS, EU Taxonomy)
  • Strong understanding of sustainability reporting frameworks, including double materiality assessments, GRI, UNGPs, HREDD, HRIA
  • Ability to analyze complex data and create new disclosures according to ISSB/SASB, GRI, UNGPs, HREDD, HRIA
  • Ability to develop and execute a sustainability disclosure strategy addressing multiple stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sustainability reporting accreditation/certification (e.g., GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, ISSB Fundamentals Certificate)
  • Experience with external reporting tools such as Workiva and familiarity with XBRL tagging
  • Experience managing consultants and external audit processes
  • Direct experience performing third-party assurance

Compensation & Benefits

  • San Francisco, CA: $153,500 – $207,600 USD/year
  • Seattle, WA: $139,500 – $188,700 USD/year
