About the Role

Join the Amazon Speech team, designing and developing core speech recognition technology used in Amazon Echo, the Amazon mobile shopping app, and other innovative products. As a Software Engineer, you will work alongside software engineers and machine learning scientists to develop and deploy machine learning models to millions of devices worldwide.

You will play a pivotal role in creating reliable, scalable, high-performance systems that form the foundation of Amazon’s voice-enabled experiences. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on products used daily by millions of customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain key system features and components.
  • Investigate design approaches, prototype new technologies, and evaluate technical feasibility.
  • Work within an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high-quality software against aggressive schedules.
  • Establish architectural principles, select design patterns, and mentor team members on best practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
  • 2+ years experience developing machine learning platforms for scientific experimentation.
  • Proficient in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design.
  • 1+ year of experience contributing to architecture and design of new and existing systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and experience in Machine Learning.
  • Excellent technical communication skills with both peers and non-technical teams.
  • Sharp analytical skills and proven system design abilities.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
  • Leadership experience in engineering environments, driving operational excellence and best practices.
  • Experience achieving stretch goals in a highly innovative, fast-paced environment.
