🚀 Role Overview
AWS is seeking an exceptional Software Development Manager (SDM) to lead engineering innovation for Amazon FSx for Lustre, a fully managed, high-performance cloud file storage service.
Amazon FSx for Lustre powers mission-critical workloads such as:
- GPU-intensive AI/ML workloads
- High-Performance Computing (HPC)
- Enterprise-scale applications
- Large-scale analytics pipelines
Launched in 2018, FSx for Lustre has become a foundational storage service for customers running some of the largest and most performance-sensitive workloads on AWS.
This is a leadership role requiring deep technical expertise, strong people management skills, and the ability to drive high-scale distributed systems innovation.

🛠 Key Responsibilities
👥 Engineering Leadership
- Lead a team of software engineers delivering high-performance, reliable AWS services
- Hire, mentor, coach, and promote engineering talent
- Establish strong operational excellence and engineering standards
- Drive mechanisms that ensure scalability, reliability, and performance
🧠 Technical Strategy & Architecture
- Partner with Product Managers, Principal Engineers, and Senior Leadership to define technical vision and roadmap
- Design and architect distributed, multi-tier web services at AWS scale
- Ensure engineering best practices across the full development lifecycle:
- Coding standards
- Code reviews
- Source control
- Build processes
- Testing and certification
- Live-site operations
🤝 Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work across AWS teams to build new cloud storage solutions
- Engage directly with customers to understand workload requirements
- Translate business goals into scalable technical execution plans
🧩 About the Team – Utility Computing (UC)
The Utility Computing (UC) organization delivers foundational AWS services including:
- Amazon S3
- Amazon EC2
- Storage, Compute, Database, IoT, and Platform services
As part of UC, you will support customers with highly scalable, secure, and performance-driven cloud services, including specialized security solutions for enterprise workloads.

As a Software Development Manager for FSx for Lustre, you will:

🎓 Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
- 3+ years of system design/architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, scalability)
- 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
- Strong knowledge of full software development lifecycle best practices
- Experience partnering with Product or Program Management teams

- Experience communicating with customers, technical teams, and senior leadership
- Strong ability to describe product strategy, technical designs, and roadmap execution
- Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and developing high-performing software engineers
- Track record of building scalable distributed systems
