The AGI Data Services organization powers the data behind Amazon’s large language models (LLMs).

We procure, generate, and validate high-quality human-created and human-in-the-loop data used to train and evaluate cutting-edge Generative AI systems.

One of our strategic growth channels is external crowdsourcing, where we directly recruit, engage, and manage global subject-matter experts to generate high-quality ground truth data.

🎯 Role Overview

As a Software Development Manager (SDM), you will lead the engineering charter responsible for building AI-driven systems that recruit, onboard, vet, and manage high-quality external annotators across complex domains such as:

  • STEM
  • Software Engineering (SWE)
  • Finance
  • Medicine
  • Other advanced subject areas

You will define the strategy, architecture, and execution roadmap for scalable external-facing platforms that may serve millions of global experts.

This is a high-visibility leadership role at the intersection of AI, crowdsourcing, compliance, and platform engineering.

🚀 Key Responsibilities

🧠 AI-Driven Platform Development

  • Lead development of software systems to hire, recruit, and vet 50,000+ external experts
  • Enable expert onboarding for Nova and other GenAI data collection programs
  • Build scalable, reliable, and secure multi-tier web services

📊 Strategy & Execution

  • Define product strategy, technical requirements, and delivery roadmap
  • Drive alignment across product, engineering, legal, compliance, PR, and business teams
  • Manage full product lifecycle from definition through launch and live operations

🏗 Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Define technology stack and architectural direction
  • Review and guide system design decisions
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and global availability

👥 Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Hire exceptional engineers
  • Mentor and coach team members toward career growth
  • Foster a high-performance engineering culture
  • Drive operational excellence and engineering best practices

🌍 Impact & Scope

  • External-facing global software platform
  • Multi-country recruitment and onboarding system
  • Decisions involving PR, legal, and regulatory considerations
  • Direct influence on AI model training quality and integrity
  • Cross-team collaboration across Amazon AI and data organizations

✅ Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience
  • 3+ years designing or architecting scalable, reliable systems
  • 8+ years leading development of multi-tier web services
  • Strong knowledge of full software development lifecycle:
    • Coding standards
    • Code reviews
    • Source control management
    • Build processes
    • Testing and certification
    • Live site operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Strong executive-level communication skills
  • Experience defining product strategy and technical roadmaps
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams

💼 Compensation & Benefits

💰 Base Salary: $184,900 – $250,200 USD annually
