Job Description

Epic Games is seeking an exceptionally talented and experienced Senior Technical Artist to join our innovative development team. This role is crucial for bridging the gap between artistic vision and technical implementation, ensuring our artists have the tools and pipelines necessary to create stunning visuals efficiently. You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining artistic workflows, creating custom tools, and optimizing content for performance across various platforms. Key Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and optimize content creation pipelines and workflows to enhance artistic efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with artists and engineers to identify technical art challenges and implement practical solutions.
• Create and maintain custom tools, scripts, and shaders (e.g., Python, C++, HLSL/GLSL) to support art production.
• Provide technical guidance and support to the art team on best practices, performance optimization, and asset creation.
• Profile and optimize game assets (meshes, textures, materials, animations) for performance and visual quality across target platforms.
• Research and evaluate new technologies, tools, and techniques to improve art production and visual fidelity.
• Develop and enforce technical art standards and documentation.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.

Required Skills
• 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in game development.
• Proficiency in 3D content creation software (e.g., Maya, Blender, ZBrush).
• Strong scripting skills in Python, MEL, or similar languages.
• Experience with real-time game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Solid understanding of PBR workflows, material authoring, and lighting techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to profile and optimize game assets and scenes for performance.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Portfolio demonstrating technical art skills and contributions to shipped titles.

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, Art, or a related field.
• Experience with shader development (HLSL/GLSL) and GPU programming.
• Familiarity with C++ programming for tool development or engine modification.
• Experience with photogrammetry pipelines or procedural content generation.
• Knowledge of animation rigging and skinning techniques.
• Previous experience mentoring junior technical artists.
