About the Job
Google Cloud’s Dataproc enables users to modernize their open‑source data analytics workloads in the cloud. As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the control plane or service layer, driving architectural and infrastructure evolution. You will influence and empower engineers across the organization and beyond.
Responsibilities
• Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Define product‑differentiating features in ambiguous problem spaces.
• Build high‑impact customer‑facing features that make Cloud Dataproc the best place to run Hadoop and Spark in the cloud.
• Provide influence and oversight across big‑data open‑source initiatives, including contributions to Spark, Flink, and Presto.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience programming in C++.
• 5 years of experience with design, architecture, and testing/launching software products.
• Experience with cloud computing and cloud APIs.
• Experience with software architecture and scalability.
• Preferred:
Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
• Preferred: 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Preferred: 5 years in a technical leadership role leading project teams.
• Preferred:
Experience in long‑term technology tests across interdependent services.
• Preferred:
Experience driving software architecture evolution.
• Preferred:
Ability to influence across multiple teams and geos.
Salary & Benefits
US base salary range $248,000–$349,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Salary may vary by location and other factors.
