Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Front-end Developer to support the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of the CIO. The role involves building component-based, responsive web interfaces for AI/ML proofs of concept and pilots. The developer will ensure interfaces are visually appealing, performant, accessible, and aligned with UX/HCD design principles.
This is a fully remote position supporting a federal government contract requiring a federal background check and NACI clearance. Candidates must reside in the U.S..
Key Responsibilities
- Develop responsive web applications using React, HTML, CSS, and modern frameworks.
- Integrate AI-enabled features per design and data science specifications.
- Collaborate with UX designers to implement design systems and accessibility standards (Section 508).
- Participate in iterative development and CI/CD pipelines.
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain front-end applications for performance and scalability.
- Document code, components, and implementation for HUD governance and AI inventory updates.
Required Experience and Skills
- 7+ years front-end development experience with React.js, HTML, CSS.
- Expertise in React and TypeScript.
- Experience with component-based design, responsive layouts, USWDS, Section 508 accessibility compliance, WCAG AA standards.
- Experience with testing frameworks: Jest/RTL, Cypress; performance: Web Vitals; security: OWASP, CSP.
- Experience with micro frontend patterns and shared component libraries/Storybook.
- Experience with state/data management: Redux/RTK Query, GraphQL; integration with REST/GraphQL and ICAM/login.gov.
- Experience building role-based, auditable UIs for FedRAMP-constrained CI/CD.
- Experience implementing AI-enhanced interfaces or working with data-driven applications.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
- Experience in regulated/federal government environments is a plus.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

- UI frameworks: Bootstrap, Material-UI, Tailwind
- Version control: Git, GitHub/GitLab
- Familiarity with API integration and back-end services
- Basic understanding of AI/ML model integration
- Automated testing: Jest, Cypress, Mocha
- Other JS frameworks: Angular or Vue preferred
- Cloud deployment awareness: AWS Amplify, Azure Static Web Apps preferred
