A leading global retailer, Walmart, is seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist to join its Customer Decision Science team within the Customer Insights & Strategy organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage large-scale customer data, advanced analytics, and machine learning to improve customer experiences for millions of households across digital and physical channels.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with business acumen, enabling them to translate complex customer behavior into actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making, loyalty, and growth initiatives. You will play a key role in shaping data-driven strategies that influence high-impact business outcomes at enterprise scale.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and execute advanced analytics initiatives focused on customer loyalty, retention, and behavioral insights

Identify business growth opportunities by mining large-scale customer datasets and translating findings into strategic recommendations

Design and deploy quantitative models such as causal inference frameworks, propensity models, and cohort analyses to understand customer behavior

Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Engineering, Product, Marketing, Strategy, and Finance teams to integrate insights into business decisions

Develop scalable data solutions, including reusable logic, User Defined Functions (UDFs), and reproducible analytics workflows

Act as a subject matter expert in leadership forums, influencing decisions through data-driven storytelling

Establish best practices for analytics, experimentation, and research methodologies

Communicate complex analytical findings effectively to executive and non-technical audiences

Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of analytical excellence

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related quantitative field

3–5+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or a related field (or equivalent advanced degree experience)

Expert proficiency in SQL and strong experience with Python or R for statistical modeling and data visualization

Deep experience with cohort analysis, customer metrics, clickstream data, and large-scale datasets

Strong knowledge of experimental design and causal inference methods (e.g., propensity scoring, difference-in-differences)

Proven ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision in ambiguous environments

Excellent communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in retail, e-commerce, or omni-channel customer analytics environments

Experience with cloud data platforms such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar big data ecosystems

Experience building internal analytics tools, packages, or reusable frameworks

Leadership experience, including mentoring and code reviews

Compensation & Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary range depending on location:

Hoboken, NJ: $108,000 – $216,000 annually
San Bruno or Sunnyvale, CA: $117,000 – $234,000 annually
