Position Overview

The Senior Data Center Commissioning Engineer – Electrical Systems is responsible for planning and executing commissioning activities for complex electrical infrastructure in mission-critical environments, primarily data centers. This role requires strong technical expertise in electrical distribution systems, testing, and troubleshooting, along with leadership capability to guide project teams and junior engineers.

You will work across the full project lifecycle — from design review through functional testing and facility occupancy — ensuring systems meet client requirements and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission electrical distribution and control systems including HV/MV/LV equipment in data center environments.
  • Review system designs for compliance with client objectives and best practices.
  • Develop commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and documentation.
  • Conduct factory acceptance testing (FAT) and on-site functional testing.
  • Analyze test results, perform thermographic surveys, and prepare technical reports.
  • Coordinate field activities with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Lead commissioning meetings and provide technical guidance to project engineers.
  • Maintain detailed documentation, daily reports, and issue tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and project requirements.

Systems & Equipment Experience

Candidates should have hands-on experience with:

  • Generators and paralleling switchgear
  • Transformers (HV/MV/LV)
  • UPS and battery systems
  • Switchgear and switchboards
  • ATS / STS systems
  • PDUs, RPPs, busways
  • PLC controls and monitoring systems (EPMS/BMS)
  • Grounding and lighting control systems

Qualifications

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years mission-critical experience, OR
  • 7+ years commissioning experience in mission-critical environments.
  • Data center commissioning experience is essential.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and lead teams.
  • Knowledge of commissioning standards such as ASHRAE, BCxA, and NETA (preferred).
  • Understanding of BMS and EPMS systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Commissioning certifications.

Work Environment

  • Significant travel (50%–75%) depending on project assignments.
  • Physical activity including walking long distances and lifting up to 50 lbs.
