Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Archaeologist to serve as Team Lead for our growing archaeology and cultural resource management (CRM) division. In this leadership role, you will oversee archaeological investigations and assessments, guide field teams, manage project schedules and compliance requirements, and contribute to business development efforts.

You’ll play a key role in shaping heritage policy, promoting best practices in field archaeology, and ensuring that our projects meet both regulatory obligations and ethical stewardship standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Principal Investigator or Project Director for archaeological surveys, evaluations, excavations, and mitigation projects
  • Oversee preparation of proposals, budgets, field methodologies, and technical reports
  • Lead and mentor field crews, junior archaeologists, and lab analysts
  • Ensure compliance with national and regional cultural resource laws (e.g., NHPA Section 106, NAGPRA, The Ancient Monuments Act, etc.)
  • Conduct consultations with government agencies, Indigenous or tribal representatives, and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with environmental planners, architects, GIS specialists, and historians on interdisciplinary projects
  • Review site data, artifact records, and laboratory findings; prepare professional-level documentation for clients and regulatory bodies
  • Support internal quality control, health and safety compliance, and project profitability
  • Participate in conferences, publish findings, and support client outreach and business development

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Heritage, or a related field
  • 8–15+ years of professional experience in cultural resource management or field archaeology
  • Proven record of supervising archaeological fieldwork and authoring technical reports
  • Eligibility to serve as Principal Investigator under federal, state, or regional requirements (as applicable)
  • Familiarity with GIS applications, artifact analysis, and archaeological survey equipment
  • Strong knowledge of CRM regulations and permitting procedures
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, including stakeholder engagement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered or accredited archaeologist status (e.g., RPA, M.A.I., FSA)
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, descendant groups, or local heritage bodies
  • Knowledge of regional archaeological periods, materials, and excavation methods
  • Experience with digital field recording systems (e.g., ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, TerraSync)
  • Prior business development or proposal writing experience
