Job Overview

Ascension is seeking a skilled Software Engineer – Platform Services to support innovation in healthcare technology through modern API platforms and backend development. This role focuses on building, enhancing, and maintaining platform services using Apigee and Java-based backend systems.

As part of a mission-driven, non-profit healthcare organization, you will contribute to scalable, secure, and reliable technology solutions that improve patient care and operational efficiency across a national health system.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain platform services using Apigee (Edge and Apigee X).
• Build and enhance backend services and internal tools using Java.
• Develop and test applications using Spring Boot and JUnit.
• Apply CI/CD best practices using tools such as Jenkins and Maven.
• Design, implement, and maintain RESTful APIs following industry standards.
• Perform API testing and validation using tools like Postman.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable platform solutions.
• Support platform reliability, performance, and security initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Apigee, including Apigee Edge and Apigee X.
• Strong backend development skills in Java.
• Experience building and testing applications with Spring Boot and JUnit.
• Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, Maven).
• Solid understanding of REST API design principles.
• Proficiency with Git and version control workflows.
• Experience with API testing tools such as Postman.
• Education requirement:
  • High School Diploma/GED with 2 years of experience OR
  • Associate’s Degree OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree
• Minimum 1 year of experience required; 4 years preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of leadership or mentoring experience.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) or VMware Tanzu (PCF).
• Experience with asynchronous messaging systems (e.g., Pub/Sub).
• Front-end development exposure using ReactJS is a plus.
