Job Description

Position Overview:
The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is seeking an experienced and board-certified Family Medicine Physician for a senior-level GS-15 position at one of its military treatment facilities. The incumbent will provide advanced primary care and population health management to military service members, retirees, and their families, while also serving in a leadership capacity across clinical and administrative operations.

This position supports the DHA’s mission of delivering medically ready forces and ready medical forces — by integrating high-quality, patient-centered care with military health system efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient primary care for patients of all ages, including diagnosis, treatment, coordination, and follow-up
  • Serve as a clinical leader and subject matter expert in family practice within the assigned facility
  • Participate in the management and oversight of clinical operations, performance improvement, and strategic planning initiatives
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, specialists, behavioral health, and administrative personnel
  • Mentor junior physicians, residents, and advanced practice providers as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with federal medical standards, DHA guidelines, and quality assurance protocols
  • Support deployment readiness evaluations, preventive care, and chronic disease management
  • Document all care in an approved Electronic Health Record (EHR) system (e.g., MHS GENESIS, AHLTA)

Basic Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Family Medicine
  • Board Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or equivalent
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. state or territory
  • U.S. Citizenship (required for federal civil service positions)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience practicing in military, VA, or federal health systems
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in clinical or operational settings
  • Experience with population health, medical readiness, or team-based care models
  • Familiarity with military culture, readiness assessments, and deployment health requirements
