🎯 Role Overview

As a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer, you will be directly responsible for bringing complex electronic assembly designs to life.

You will partner closely with Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Reliability, and Contract Manufacturing (CM) teams to:

  • Optimize designs for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Improve yield, cost, and cycle time
  • Drive production readiness and scaling
  • Solve complex aerospace manufacturing challenges

This role requires both deep technical expertise and systems-level thinking to support high-reliability, low-cost satellite bus and payload production.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

🏗 Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

  • Provide PCB/PCBA DFM feedback to design teams
  • Identify and escalate manufacturing risks early in development
  • Ensure design alignment with high-volume aerospace production requirements

🏭 Manufacturing Qualification & Readiness

  • Drive PCBA Manufacturing Qualification at Contract Manufacturers (CM)
  • Define manufacturing readiness requirements
  • Lead key production milestone reviews
  • Ensure production readiness deliverables are completed

⚙️ Process Development & Optimization

  • Investigate and implement new manufacturing technologies
  • Improve quality, reliability, throughput, and cost
  • Deliver standardized rework practices and equipment capability validation
  • Optimize processes during pre-production and ramp phases

🔍 Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Investigate defects during production, test, and integration
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Reduce manufacturing risks and simplify processes
  • Provide status updates from design through production ramp

🛠 Required Technical Experience

  • PCB Assembly Processes:
    • Stencil printing & solder paste application
    • SPI (Solder Paste Inspection)
    • Pick & Place
    • SMT Reflow
    • AOI (Automated Optical Inspection)
    • 5DX (X-ray inspection)
    • Selective soldering
    • Flying probe testing
    • Cleaning/wash processes
  • Experience collaborating with:
    • Contract manufacturers
    • Suppliers
    • 3rd-party test and failure analysis partners

✅ Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with board assembly processes and manufacturing equipment
  • Strong independent execution skills
  • Clear and timely communication with manufacturing partners

⭐ Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IPC-A-610H Class 3 & IPC J-STD-001H compliance
  • Polymeric applications (conformal coating, staking, underfill)
  • Knowledge of solder alloys (leaded, lead-free, next-gen low temp alloys)
  • Experience with flying probe test systems & Design for Test (DFT)
  • Aerospace or high-reliability electronics experience
