Job Summary

Columbia Southern University is seeking qualified Part-Time Faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Business Administration, with a focus on DBA-level instruction and dissertation mentorship.

Part-time faculty members deliver high-quality instruction, support student engagement and success, and serve as subject matter experts within their discipline. Faculty collaborate with academic leadership and colleagues to maintain academic rigor, relevance, and excellence in online education.

Essential Job Duties

Instruction & Student Engagement

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses within the qualified discipline
  • Record and post a course welcome video with transcript
  • Facilitate discussion boards and encourage meaningful student participation
  • Communicate regularly with students to promote engagement and course completion
  • Conduct weekly outreach to students who are struggling academically
  • Participate in the course classroom on a minimum of four (4) separate days per week
  • Respond to student email inquiries within 48 hours using the university-assigned email account

Assessment & Feedback

  • Review student submissions and provide timely, substantive, and value-added feedback through the Blackboard Learning Management System
  • Clearly explain point deductions in alignment with grading rubrics
  • Resolve academic integrity issues, grade disputes, and grade inflation concerns promptly and professionally

Live Instruction

  • Host a minimum of two (2) live lectures during the course
  • Live sessions must be scheduled during Units II and VI within the following timeframes:
    • Monday–Friday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM CST
    • Saturday–Sunday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM CST

Curriculum & Faculty Engagement

  • Serve as a course content expert and assist with curriculum review and maintenance
  • Review courses for academic rigor and content currency
  • Participate in faculty development programs and mandatory annual university training
  • Complete additional projects or responsibilities as assigned by the Academic Program Director or Lead Faculty
  • May have the opportunity to serve as a Course Writer for an additional stipend

Education & Experience Requirements

Faculty Teaching Undergraduate and/or Certificate Courses (1000–4000 Level)

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Terminal degree or master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Terminal or master’s degree in any field plus 18 graduate semester credit hours in the teaching discipline or closely related field
  • Highest degree in the discipline with applicable certification or licensure and at least two (2) years of professional experience
  • Prior college or university teaching experience (preferred)

Faculty Teaching Graduate Courses (5000 Level)

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Terminal degree in the teaching discipline or closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Terminal degree in any field plus 18 graduate semester credit hours in the teaching discipline or closely related field
  • Highest degree in the discipline with certification or licensure and at least five (5) years of professional experience
  • Prior graduate-level teaching experience (preferred)

Exceptions to credentialing requirements require approval from the College Dean and Provost.

Equipment Requirements

Faculty are required to provide their own equipment, including:

  • Computer, telephone, printer, and scanner
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software
  • Secure, reliable, high-speed internet access sufficient to perform job duties
