🔹 Role Overview

As a Backend Engineer II, you will:

  • Build, maintain, and optimize backend services powering Openly’s insurance platform.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers to create APIs delivering a best-in-class user experience.
  • Integrate with external services and data providers to manage payments, documents, claims, and risk data.
  • Build APIs for third-party resellers to programmatically purchase insurance.
  • Contribute to architectural and operational decisions including microservices, deployment techniques, and technology selection.
  • Develop internal tooling and APIs to improve business and engineering workflows.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups, 1:1s, and retros, sharing expertise across the organization.

🔹 Requirements

  • Degree: Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 3+ years in professional backend development
  • Languages: Go preferred, but not required (Go code challenge part of interview)
  • Strong understanding of core engineering concepts
  • Ability to deliver full features with technical guidance
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical challenges

Infrastructure: Google Cloud (Cloud Run, Kubernetes, Pub/Sub, CloudSQL), Terraform
