Job Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Node.js Backend Developer with strong AWS cloud expertise to design, build, and scale backend services for large-scale, consumer-facing applications. This is a hybrid contract role based in the Bay Area, requiring collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams at the Mountain View office.

The ideal candidate has deep backend engineering experience, strong system design skills, and hands-on exposure to cloud-native, distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend and mid-tier APIs using Node.js.
  • Build scalable, secure, and high-performance services for web and mobile applications.
  • Participate in software architecture and system design discussions.
  • Develop and consume RESTful (and/or SOAP) web services.
  • Implement unit testing and follow Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.
  • Work across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Design and deploy distributed, highly available systems in the cloud.
  • Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps teams.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt modern technologies, frameworks, and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of overall experience in software or backend development.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing backend and mid-tier APIs using Node.js.
  • Strong experience with software design and architecture.
  • Proven experience working through the entire SDLC.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful web services (SOAP experience is a plus).
  • Strong background in cloud-based application development.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (or equivalent cloud platforms).
  • Experience designing scalable, reliable, and highly available distributed systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
