Key Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound calls from patients and service users in a professional, timely, and empathetic manner.
  • Respond to enquiries about NHS services, appointments, prescriptions, and healthcare information.
  • Use NHS-approved systems to accurately record patient details and manage call logs.
  • Assess and triage calls, escalating complex medical queries to clinical professionals.
  • Book, reschedule, and manage appointments across NHS departments and healthcare providers.
  • Follow data protection regulations and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Keep up-to-date with NHS policies, service changes, and health campaigns.
  • Support service-level KPIs, including average handling time and customer satisfaction.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills.
  • Strong computer literacy and confidence navigating multiple systems simultaneously.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and demonstrate emotional resilience.
  • Professional telephone manner and customer service orientation.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail.

Experience

  • Previous experience in call center, customer service, or healthcare support is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with NHS systems or prior work in healthcare is an advantage.
  • Experience in remote or virtual work is preferred but not essential.

Working Hours

  • Shifts available between 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Monday to Sunday.
  • Flexible scheduling options including weekends and evenings.
  • Full-time: typically 37.5 hours/week.
  • Overtime available during high-demand periods.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of NHS service pathways and patient referral processes (training provided).
  • Ability to empathize with patients and handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a remote team.
  • Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new systems and procedures.
