About CyberTeck Academy
CyberTeck Academy provides after-school and summer camp programs focused on computer science, coding, and game design for students in grades 1–7.
We currently partner with hundreds of schools across Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia, helping students learn programming through engaging, hands-on activities such as game development and modding.
We are looking for an experienced developer to help update and modernize our custom Minecraft educational mod and maps.
Project Overview
We need a skilled Minecraft mod developer to upgrade our existing mod and activity maps from Minecraft: Java Edition version 1.7.10 to the latest version.
The mod is built on top of ComputerCraft, and includes several custom APIs and programs used in our classroom curriculum.
The goal is to ensure the mod continues to run smoothly with modern Minecraft versions while maintaining compatibility with our learning activities.
Responsibilities
- Update the existing ComputerCraft-based mod to the latest Minecraft Java Edition
- Ensure all custom APIs and programs work correctly
- Update and adapt activity maps to support the new version
- Test for functionality, stability, and performance
- Troubleshoot and fix issues discovered during the update
- Collaborate with our team and participate in regular progress meetings
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience with Minecraft modding
- Strong programming skills in Java and Lua
- Experience modifying or maintaining Minecraft Java Edition mods
- Familiarity with modding frameworks and tools
- Understanding of the Minecraft modding ecosystem
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Project Milestones
0 – Evaluation Phase (1 Week)
- Review existing work from the previous developer
- Assess the current project state
- Identify:
- What can remain unchanged
- What needs improvement
- What must be rebuilt
- Provide recommendations and risk assessment
Milestone 1 – Core Functionality Restoration
Goal: Ensure the mod works reliably for classroom use.
Responsibilities include:
- Restore all core ComputerCraft functionality
- Ensure all custom elements used in curriculum work
- Implement proper in-game error reporting
- Ensure the game works offline
- Resolve issues discovered during testing
- Weekly progress meetings
Deadline:
End of March 2026 (latest by second week of April 2026)
Milestone 2 – Full Feature Completion
- Restore all remaining mod functionality
- Ensure compatibility with additional modpack elements
- Fix issues discovered during summer 2026 deployment
- Optimize for:
- Stability
- Performance
- Resource efficiency
- Continue weekly updates while work is active
Deadline: August 2026
