About Us
CyberTeck Academy provides after-school and summer camp programs focused on computer science and game design for students in grades 1–7. We partner with hundreds of schools across Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia to deliver engaging, educational experiences.
We are looking to hire a Minecraft Mod and Map Updater for a critical project and potentially ongoing future projects.
Project Overview
We are seeking a skilled developer to update our custom activity mod and associated maps from Minecraft Java Edition 1.7.10 to the latest version. The mod is based on ComputerCraft, with custom APIs and programs that must be preserved and adapted.
This project requires a deep understanding of Minecraft modding, expertise in Java and Lua, and experience with mod development for Minecraft Java Edition.
Responsibilities
- Update the existing ComputerCraft-based mod to work with the latest Minecraft Java Edition.
- Integrate all custom APIs and programs seamlessly into the updated mod.
- Update the activity maps to function with the new mod and Minecraft version.
- Test the updated mod and maps for functionality, compatibility, and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues during the update process.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in Minecraft mod and map development or updates.
- Strong proficiency in Java and Lua programming languages.
- Familiarity with Minecraft modding tools and frameworks.
- Knowledge of the Minecraft modding community and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage project timelines effectively.
Project Milestones
0 – Evaluation (1 week)
- Examine existing mod and map work.
- Determine best approach: preserve, revise, or rebuild elements.
- Identify potential issues and provide recommendations.
1 – First Milestone (By End of March / 2nd Week of April 2026)
- Restore core functionality for classroom use:
- Custom ComputerCraft elements fully functional
- In-game error reporting working correctly
- Offline play supported
- Full curriculum playable without major issues
- Update other mod elements as needed
- Participate in weekly progress meetings
2 – Second Milestone (By August 2026)
- Restore remaining mod functionality, including:
- Supplemental code and mod elements
- Secondary quality-of-life mods
- Optimize mod for:
- Stability
- Minimal resource usage
- Resolve issues identified during initial deployment
- Maintain weekly progress meetings
Potential future work: Additional updates and enhancements may be offered based on performance.
Budget
- Budget is a placeholder. Priority will be given to freelancers with the right experience and a competitive proposal.
