About Us
CyberTeck Academy provides after-school and summer camp programs focused on computer science and game design for students in grades 1–7. We partner with hundreds of schools across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
We are looking to hire a Minecraft Mod and Map Updater for a current project, with potential for ongoing collaboration on future projects.
Project Overview
We need an experienced developer to update a custom Minecraft mod and associated activity maps from Minecraft Java Edition 1.7.10 to the latest version. The mod is based on the ComputerCraft mod but includes custom APIs and programs unique to our curriculum.
This role requires strong skills in Java and Lua, as well as hands-on experience with Minecraft modding.
Responsibilities
- Update the existing ComputerCraft-based mod to be compatible with the latest Minecraft Java Edition.
- Integrate all custom APIs and programs into the updated mod.
- Update the activity maps to work with the new mod version.
- Test the mod and maps for functionality, compatibility, and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues during the update process.
- Participate in weekly progress meetings to report work completed and challenges.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in developing or updating Minecraft mods and maps.
- Strong proficiency in Java and Lua.
- Familiarity with Minecraft modding tools and frameworks.
- Knowledge of the Minecraft modding community and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage project timelines effectively.
Project Milestones
0. Evaluation (1 week)
- Review the existing mod and maps from previous developers.
- Identify what works, what needs revision, and what may need to be rebuilt.
- Advise on potential issues and the best approach moving forward.
1. First Milestone (Core Functionality)
Deadline: Preferably by end of March 2026, no later than second week of April 2026
- Restore core mod elements required for the curriculum:
- Custom ComputerCraft elements fully functional
- In-game error reporting working correctly
- Integration of other mod elements as needed
- Offline functionality ensured
- Resolve any additional issues discovered during testing
Meetings: Weekly progress updates required
2. Second Milestone (Full Mod Functionality)
Deadline: August 2026
- Restore all remaining mod elements, including supplemental code and secondary mods.
- Fix any issues from initial deployment (summer 2026).
- Optimize mod for stability and minimal resource usage.
- Weekly updates during active development required
Future Work
- Opportunity for periodic updates and enhancements based on performance and experience.
Budget
- Placeholder budget; priority will be given to experienced freelancers with competitive rates.
