All of our media platforms are built on WordPress, and our e-commerce brand Hepper operates on WooCommerce.

We’re 100% remote, globally distributed, and growing fast.

💻 The Role: Lead WordPress Developer

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) leadership position. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading the web development department
  • Fixing issues and clearing a growing backlog
  • Proactively securing and optimizing our websites
  • Building new tools and high-impact features
  • Hiring and mentoring 1–2 developers within 3–4 months

⚠️ This is a backend-heavy role. Frontend polish is secondary — technical execution and system architecture matter most.

🚀 Major Projects Ahead

  • Make our websites the fastest in our industry, with fewer ads and better UX than competitors
  • Revamp Hepper’s WooCommerce experience (checkout, product pages, analytics setup)
  • Clear technical backlog and stabilize infrastructure
  • Build innovative tools (e.g., Puppy Weight Calculator, pet growth predictors, etc.)

🛠 Your Responsibilities

  • Lead and optimize the web development workflow
  • Develop scalable features for high-traffic WordPress environments
  • Maintain site security, updates, and performance
  • Troubleshoot plugin/theme conflicts and system issues
  • Collaborate with marketing, content, and leadership teams
  • Maintain GitHub repositories and technical documentation
  • Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers
  • Hire and manage new team members

✅ Required Technical Skills

  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, PHP
  • MySQL and database management
  • Advanced WordPress development (themes, hooks, filters, plugin API)
  • WooCommerce customization
  • Webpack or ViteJS
  • Composer (autoloading, dependency injection)
  • SSH and terminal usage
  • Git / GitHub workflows
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills
