Role Overview

We’re looking for a Lead WordPress Developer to focus on backend development, security, and new feature implementation across our WordPress and WooCommerce platforms. This role offers high responsibility, ownership, and flexibility, with opportunities to manage and hire a small team.

You will:

  • Lead development and resolve issues across all WordPress sites
  • Build new features, tools, and enhancements for millions of users
  • Optimize site speed, performance, and security
  • Maintain technical documentation, QA procedures, and coding standards
  • Support content and marketing teams with dev/IT requests
  • Mentor and eventually hire 1-2 developers within your department
  • Proactively monitor sites for security risks and performance issues

Key Projects

  • Make websites fastest-loading and more user-friendly than competitors
  • Revamp Hepper.com e-commerce experience: checkout, categories, product listings, analytics
  • Clear backlog of pending development tasks
  • Build innovative tools like calculators or interactive features for pet owners

Required Skills

  • Front-end: HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery
  • Back-end: PHP, MySQL, WordPress (themes, plugins, hooks, filters)
  • Experience with build tools (Webpack, ViteJS) and Composer
  • Git/GitHub workflow and SSH / terminal proficiency
  • Debugging and troubleshooting (theme/plugin conflicts, performance issues)
  • Strong communication and collaboration in remote environments
  • Ability to take ownership and deliver projects independently
