🎯 Role Overview
Amazon Leo is seeking a Lead Harness Quality Engineer to lead a team of harness quality engineers in delivering aerospace-grade quality at unprecedented production scale.
This role is ideal for a systems thinker with strong analytical skills, technical depth, and a passion for quality assurance in mission-critical aerospace hardware.
You will own electrical harness design quality, supplier quality systems, and end-to-end lifecycle quality management.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
Electrical Harness Quality Leadership
- Own design quality assurance of electrical harnesses (connectors, backshells, cables, wires, grounding, RF, high-speed data, power distribution)
- Lead electrical integrity analysis (signal degradation, EMI, transient susceptibility)
- Influence harness design to ensure signal integrity and reliability
- Perform and lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for harness anomalies
Supplier Quality & Process Ownership
- Define harness quality requirements and qualification processes
- Execute PPAP and production process validation
- Lead supplier audits and drive RCCA (Root Cause & Corrective Action)
- Develop CAPA systems and quality metrics reporting
- Scale supplier processes to reduce defects at increasing volumes
- Establish monitoring mechanisms to ensure process control
- Influence supplier investment decisions for sustainable quality
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Build Leo Quality System aligned with AS9100 & ISO9001
- Represent Supplier Quality in cross-functional initiatives
- Lead external audit teams
- Guide supplier selection and development decisions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with design, reliability, avionics, test, and manufacturing teams
- Participate in product development from concept to production
- Travel as required to supplier and Amazon facilities
🛠 A Day in the Life
- Own supplier quality requirements within product development teams
- Drive defect reduction initiatives through data-driven RCA
- Act as the face of Leo Quality for suppliers
- Support receiving inspection and component quality control
- Automate and improve quality-related business processes
- Split time between Amazon facilities and supplier sites
✅ Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of experience designing wiring harnesses for large electrical systems
- Experience working with contract manufacturers
- Experience in space environments with EMI considerations
- Experience with MIL-STD-461, IPC/WHMA-A-620 or similar standards
- Experience with PPAP execution
- Experience conducting supplier audits and driving RCCA
- Hands-on hardware debug and automated verification experience
- Familiarity with SAE, ISO, IPC and related industry standards
⭐ Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace, spacecraft, or high-reliability electronics experience
- Experience in regulated environments (aerospace, medical, etc.)
- Project management of technical programs
- Experience with harness testing methods (DWV, IR, NEXT, FEXT, TDR, VSWR)
- ECAD tools experience (KiCad, Altium, Expedition, Mentor Graphics)
- Strong cross-functional coordination skills
