Location: Remote (U.S.)
Position Type: Full-time, Salary + Commission
Salary Range: $75,000 – $115,000 base + commission
Reports To: Director of Automation Sales

Job Summary

The Industrial Automation Sales Engineer will manage the full sales cycle—from generating opportunities and qualifying leads to negotiating contracts and supporting project implementation. This role requires both technical expertise and strong sales acumen, partnering with customers to provide tailored automation solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline through research, networking, and inbound inquiries.
  • Build long-term customer relationships, generate additional sales, and resolve issues collaboratively.
  • Plan and execute weekly and monthly sales activities including prospecting and forecasts.
  • Conduct consultative pre-sale meetings to understand customer needs.
  • Prepare technical and commercial proposals, conduct presentations, and clarify solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, operations) to design and implement solutions.
  • Manage quoting, contract negotiation, and project handover processes.
  • Attend planning meetings, trade shows, workshops, and other marketing events.
  • Travel regularly (up to 50%) to meet clients and prospects.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience selling industrial capital equipment or working as an engineer.
  • Preferred: Mechanical or Industrial Engineering background.
  • Experience with automation solutions, material handling, and engineered products.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems and understand application requirements.

Skills & Characteristics

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, CRM software; CAD experience helpful.
  • Self-motivated and willing to go the extra mile to close sales.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Performance Metrics

  • Achievement of sales dollars and gross profit (GP) targets.
  • Annual sales goals established by Director of Automation Sales.
