A global healthcare leader, Abbott Laboratories, is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join the Data Strategy and Analytics function within its Diabetes Care division in Alameda, California. This is a strategic, high-impact role focused on shaping data science direction, enabling advanced analytics, and driving business insights that improve healthcare outcomes for millions of people worldwide.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise in data science, statistics, and programming with business acumen and stakeholder collaboration skills. You will play a key role in developing data-driven strategies, building predictive models, and translating complex datasets into actionable insights that support global marketing and business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Design and execute advanced analytics to solve strategic business challenges using structured and unstructured data sources

Develop hypotheses and apply statistical, mathematical, and operational research methodologies to test and validate insights

Build, test, and deploy predictive models and algorithms that deliver measurable business value

Create data-driven narratives and dashboards to support strategic decision-making across the organization

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable analytics systems and infrastructure

Define and implement a division-wide data science roadmap aligned with business goals

Conduct advanced statistical analysis to identify trends, measure performance, and uncover opportunities

Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable analytical solutions

Stay current with emerging data science technologies and drive innovation across the organization

Communicate technical findings clearly to business leaders and non-technical audiences

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)

8+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or biological/healthcare data environments

Strong programming skills in Python or R and experience working with SQL and large datasets

Experience with predictive modeling, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools

Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and business units

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of analytics experience with strong domain expertise

Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related field

Experience with cloud platforms and tools such as AWS (Athena, SageMaker, Comprehend)

Knowledge of data pipelines, APIs, and large-scale experimentation or A/B testing systems

Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or SAP BI

Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders

Curiosity-driven mindset with the ability to thrive in ambiguous environments
