⚡ About the Role

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician (EOT) serves as Amazon’s front-line responder for hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting in mission-critical AWS data centers.

You will operate, maintain, and troubleshoot vital infrastructure systems that keep the cloud running — including generators, switchgear, UPS systems, cooling systems, and fire/life safety equipment.

This role is ideal for technically skilled professionals with mission-critical experience in data centers, telecom, military, or industrial environments.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain electrical, mechanical, generator, and fire/life safety systems
  • Troubleshoot facility equipment and rack-level issues within SLA requirements
  • Perform preventive maintenance (HVAC PMs, filter changes, rack power installs, PDU & ATS replacements)
  • Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures
  • Take daily operational readings (temperature, voltage, current, etc.)
  • Utilize CMMS systems to manage workflows and inventory
  • Supervise contractors performing maintenance
  • Respond to emergency calls via on-call rotation
  • Ensure compliance with physical security and safety policies
  • Drive operational innovation while reducing facility costs
  • Write and maintain operational procedures

  • Walk uneven terrain
  • Work at heights and on ladders
  • Lift up to 39 lbs (team lift 40+ lbs)
  • Push/pull heavy equipment
  • Work in noisy environments
  • Bend, twist, and maneuver in tight spaces

🎖 Military MOS / Ratings Encouraged

AWS strongly encourages applicants with military technical experience, including (but not limited to):

Navy: AD, AE, AT, CE, CM, EM, ET, FC, MM, EN, STG, UT, etc.
Army: 15D, 15F, 21P, 52C, 52D, etc.
Marines: 1141, 1142, 1161, 6323, etc.
Air Force: 3E531, 3E631, 3E431, 3D136, etc.

🎓 Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of mechanical or electrical maintenance experience
  • Experience operating electrical/mechanical systems in mission-critical environments (Data Center, Telecom, Industrial, Military)
  • Active Top Secret US Government Security Clearance

⭐ Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years Data Center Engineering experience
  • Familiarity with BMS/EPMS systems
  • Operating Engineer License (DC II, DC III or equivalent)
  • Journeyman Electrical/Mechanical License
  • CFC License (Universal or Type II)
  • NFPA 70E Certification
