Overview

The State of Michigan is working to improve how residents interact with government by creating smooth, easy, and consistent digital experiences. As a Frontend Developer on the Enterprise Design System Team, you’ll join a small group of developers and designers responsible for building accessible, performant, and scalable UI components used across high-visibility government websites. This role plays an integral part in improving development, testing, and deployment strategies while acting as a liaison between the design system team and other development teams to ensure successful adoption and implementation.

Required

  • 4+ years of experience designing, architecting, and developing applications using modern JavaScript technologies such as React, Angular, Vue, and TypeScript
  • Proficiency in writing efficient, modular, and scalable CSS using SASS/SCSS
  • Experience building and maintaining reusable, performant, and accessible UI components
  • Experience developing UI components within an enterprise content management system
  • Strong understanding of web components and their use across different technology stacks
  • Experience working with and publishing NPM packages
  • Proficiency with Git, including branching and merging strategies
  • Experience with frontend packaging systems (Webpack, Rollup, etc.)
  • Experience with frontend testing frameworks (Jest, Enzyme, etc.) and linting tools (ESLint, Prettier)
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience developing web components using StencilJS
  • Develop and maintain UI components that are accessible, performant, scalable, and robust
  • Lead frontend development efforts on large-scale content management systems supporting high-visibility websites such as michigan.gov and michiganbusiness.org
  • Create and maintain design system documentation
  • Develop robust automated and manual testing plans
  • Streamline build and release processes using Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
  • Serve as a frontend development advisor to other teams, supporting integration of the enterprise design system
  • Facilitate discussions with leadership and stakeholders regarding the design system’s benefits and roadmap
