The Opportunity

This role is based in Alameda, CA within the Abbott Diabetes Care division, which focuses on innovative sensing technologies that help people with diabetes better manage their health.

As a Data Scientist within the Global Strategic Marketing team, you will play a key role in shaping the data science and analytics strategy for the organization. You will leverage diverse datasets — including app usage, customer interactions, sales performance, and market analytics — to generate insights that influence business decisions and improve patient outcomes worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver data-driven insights to address strategic business questions using structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Design, build, and validate advanced statistical and machine learning models to generate business value.
  • Create compelling data stories and dashboards using tools such as Python, R, SQL, and Power BI.
  • Define and implement a division-wide analytics and data science roadmap.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business stakeholders, technical teams, and strategic partners to design scalable analytics systems.
  • Conduct advanced statistical analysis to identify trends, measure performance, and support decision-making.
  • Translate complex analytical approaches into actionable business recommendations.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and drive innovation through analytics adoption.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in biological or healthcare data analytics in industry or academia.
  • Strong programming and analytical skills with experience in Python, R, SQL, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and influence business outcomes through analytics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of analytics experience.
  • MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, AI/ML methodologies, and data visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with AWS technologies such as Athena, SageMaker, and Comprehend.
  • Experience building data pipelines and working with APIs.
  • Exposure to large-scale experimentation (e.g., A/B testing).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (~10% long-term).
