About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Data Scientist to join our Worldwide Public Sector (WWPS) Professional Services (ProServe) team. In this role, you will work directly with public sector organizations—such as government agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofits—to design and implement data-driven solutions and machine learning models that solve complex social, operational, and technical challenges.
As a trusted advisor, you will help public sector customers adopt AI/ML technologies at scale, improve decision-making, and unlock value from their data using cloud-native tools and machine learning best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with public sector clients to understand business problems, define data science use cases, and develop ML-based solutions
- Design, prototype, and deploy machine learning models for applications such as fraud detection, citizen services, healthcare analytics, education optimization, and smart city planning
- Work with structured and unstructured data to build, train, evaluate, and optimize predictive and prescriptive models
- Develop end-to-end data workflows using cloud services (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, or GCP Vertex AI)
- Translate analytical outcomes into actionable insights and clearly communicate findings to technical and executive stakeholders
- Collaborate with cloud architects, data engineers, and DevOps professionals to build scalable, secure, and maintainable ML pipelines
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior data scientists and customers on model selection, evaluation, and deployment
- Stay informed on AI/ML trends and public sector challenges to deliver cutting-edge, ethical, and compliant solutions
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 4–8 years of experience in data science or machine learning roles
- Proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch), and SQL
- Experience building ML models using real-world data and deploying them into production environments
- Strong understanding of ML lifecycle, model evaluation metrics, and cloud-based ML toolchains
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, especially in customer-facing or consulting environments
- Ability to obtain or currently hold security clearance (if applicable to jurisdiction)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with or for government agencies, defense, healthcare, education, or nonprofit sectors
- Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and compliance requirements in the public sector (e.g., HIPAA, FedRAMP, GDPR)
- Experience using AWS services (e.g., SageMaker, Glue, Redshift, Lambda), Azure ML Studio, or GCP AI Platform
- Prior consulting experience with cross-functional teams or public sector transformation projects
- Publications or conference presentations in AI/ML or public sector innovation is a plus
What We Offer:
- Work on impactful projects that serve society and transform public sector institutions
- Competitive salary, bonus, and stock options
- Flexible work arrangements and remote options
- Access to world-class tools, cloud services, and learning resources
- Collaborative, mission-driven work culture committed to innovation and public good
