🏢 About the Role
A Data Center Technician (DCT) supports the physical infrastructure that powers Microsoft’s cloud services such as Azure, Office 365, Xbox, and Bing. The job focuses mainly on hardware deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance inside data centers.
This is an entry-to-mid level technical role with strong growth opportunities into engineering or specialist positions.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
1️⃣ Hardware Deployment & Setup
- Install and stage servers, racks, and network equipment.
- Ensure proper cabling, labeling, grounding, and configuration.
- Perform hardware upgrades and refresh activities.
2️⃣ Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose hardware failures and replace faulty components.
- Run diagnostics following standard procedures.
- Perform quality checks after maintenance or installations.
3️⃣ Decommissioning
- Remove outdated or replaced equipment safely.
- Follow standard operating procedures for disposal or reuse.
4️⃣ Incident Communication
- Escalate complex issues to engineers or management.
- Report incidents clearly and maintain documentation.
5️⃣ Team Collaboration
- Assist and guide other technicians.
- Participate in training and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain accountability for service quality.
🎓 Required Qualifications
Minimum:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer hardware knowledge.
- 1+ year experience with IT equipment or technology.
- Ability to work shifts (including nights/weekends).
Preferred:
- 2+ years IT support experience.
- Certifications like:
- CompTIA A+
- Network+
- Server+
- Structured Cabling certifications
