Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Engineer with strong experience in engineering and installing data center infrastructure. This role involves handling complex projects end-to-end, ensuring cohesive integration of infrastructure components including racking systems, cabinets, network and server equipment, structured cabling, and power distribution (AC/DC). The engineer will play a key role in delivering high-quality solutions while meeting strict deadlines and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage deadline-driven projects with minimal supervision.
  • Design and engineer complete data center environments including overhead/underfloor racking, cabinets, cable pathways, power systems, and cold aisle containment.
  • Review site survey data and develop accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) and pricing estimates.
  • Conduct and document site surveys when required.
  • Create detailed engineering specifications, technical documentation, and reports.
  • Update and maintain customer drawings, databases, and engineering records.
  • Troubleshoot engineering challenges and manage change orders and material billing issues.
  • Coordinate with internal teams such as field engineers, installation supervisors, and technicians.
  • Interface directly with customers, contractors, and data center stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance when needed.
  • Perform site visits to resolve technical issues or support project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; technical training or some college education preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of engineering or equivalent field experience in a data center environment.
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, structured cabling, and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and white papers.
  • Proficiency in drafting tools such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.

Preferred Certifications

  • BICSI Certification (highly desirable).

Engineering & Technical Skills

  • Logical problem solving and technical reasoning.
  • Interpretation of complex engineering specifications and standards.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications installation processes.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools (tape measure, calculators, power calculations, etc.).

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent computer and documentation work (typing, writing, reviewing drawings).
  • Primarily desk-based with occasional movement between work areas.
  • Periodic site visits may be required.
  • Ability to lift materials up to 15 lbs when needed.
  • Close vision required for detailed technical work.
