🧭 Role Overview
A Data Center Electrical Designer focuses on designing electrical systems that power mission-critical facilities such as:
- Hyperscale data centers
- Colocation facilities
- Enterprise IT facilities
The role combines electrical engineering knowledge + CAD design skills to produce technical drawings and system designs used for construction and manufacturing.
🛠️ Key Responsibilities
Electrical System Design
- Develop:
- Single-line diagrams (SLD)
- Protection and metering schemes
- Transformer sizing
- Equipment layouts
- Cable schedules
- Bills of materials (BOM)
Voltage Range Expertise
- Mid-voltage and low-voltage systems
- Experience from 480V to 230kV infrastructure
Engineering Collaboration
- Work with senior engineers to:
- Finalize designs
- Meet project timelines
- Improve product performance
Technical Support
- Support supply chain and manufacturing teams
- Provide design clarification
- Suggest product improvements
Drafting & Documentation
- Produce high-quality drawings according to company standards
- Create new designs and modify existing ones
🎓 Education Requirements
Minimum:
- Associate degree (Electrical Design / Engineering Technology)
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
💼 Experience Requirements
- 2–5 years in:
- Electrical drafting
- Power distribution design
- Industrial or utility systems
Software:
- AutoCAD Electrical (required)
- Autodesk Inventor (preferred)
- Other CAD / 3D modeling tools acceptable
💰 Salary Range (Typical USA Market)
Approximate:
- Entry: $65k – $75k
- Mid-level: $75k – $95k
- Experienced: $95k – $110k+
