Role Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an experienced Data Center Cluster Operations Leader to join its Infrastructure Operations team. This senior leadership position is responsible for managing large-scale data center operations, leading department heads, and ensuring the reliability and performance of mission-critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.

AWS operates one of the world’s largest cloud infrastructures, and this role will play a key part in maintaining operational excellence while supporting rapid global growth.

The ideal candidate combines strategic leadership capabilities with hands-on operational expertise, understanding both data center facilities infrastructure and IT systems — and how they integrate to deliver highly available cloud services.

About AWS Infrastructure Service

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. This includes data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems that ensure continuous service availability for customers worldwide.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including:

  • Network and hardware engineers
  • Supply chain specialists
  • Security experts
  • Engineering technicians
  • Operations managers

Together, these teams deliver scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Hire, mentor, and lead operations teams including facilities managers, chief engineers, and engineering technicians
  • Manage large organizations across multiple locations
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Operational Excellence

  • Achieve performance targets related to safety, availability, efficiency, and scalability
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs

Infrastructure Deployment & Expansion

  • Lead infrastructure operations for new data center builds, colocation deployments, and expansions
  • Ensure readiness of MEP systems for daily operations
  • Coordinate with design, construction, and engineering teams

Vendor & Process Management

  • Manage colocation vendors to meet contractual SLA requirements
  • Balance insourcing and outsourcing strategies for operational efficiency
  • Drive process improvements using modern methodologies

Incident & Risk Management

  • Lead incident response for safety, security, and availability events
  • Implement corrective actions and root-cause analysis
  • Improve operational procedures and tools

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience delivering large-scale technical projects
  • Experience managing large teams across multiple locations
  • Strong communication skills for technical and executive audiences
  • 10+ years experience in data centers or critical infrastructure environments
  • 5+ years experience in analytics, reporting, and presentations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Lean, Kaizen, DMAIC, or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems
  • Experience in IT infrastructure domains such as:
    • Networking
    • Cloud infrastructure
    • Storage and compute
    • Security
    • DevOps
    • Machine learning platforms

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $170,000 — $265,000 annually (plus sign-on bonus and RSUs)
