🏆 Role Overview

The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is the top technical escalation point for facility operations, responsible for ensuring 99.999% uptime across electrical, mechanical, and cooling systems within AWS data centers.

📍 Locations: Arizona | Oregon | Virginia (USA)
💰 Salary: ~$96,300+ annually (varies by location & experience)

🔧 Key Responsibilities

• Lead operation of critical systems (UPS, switchgear, generators, HVAC, chillers, PDUs)
• Act as primary escalation point for facility incidents and emergencies
• Perform root cause analysis and reliability improvements
• Train and mentor Engineering Operations Technicians
• Develop and implement operational standards and best practices
• Manage vendor activities and ensure safety compliance
• Support new facility buildouts and efficiency improvement projects
• Coordinate with IT, engineering, and business leaders on capacity planning

✔ Diesel generators & fuel systems
✔ 3-phase electrical distribution & UPS systems
✔ Cooling towers & centrifugal chillers
✔ CRAH/CRAC air handling units
✔ Fire & life safety systems
✔ Building automation & monitoring systems

👨‍💼 Basic Qualifications

✅ 5+ years data center engineering or operations experience
✅ 4+ years experience in critical environments
✅ 3+ years vendor management experience
✅ Bachelor’s in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field
✅ Strong troubleshooting and project leadership skills

Preferred:
⭐ Construction or project management experience
⭐ Journeyman or operating engineer license
⭐ Experience leading technical teams
