Job Description

📍 Position Overview

  • Location: New Albany, Ohio (USA)
  • Schedule:
    • Mon–Fri: 7:00 am (10-hour shifts)
    • Saturday: 7:00 am (5–8 hours)
  • Type: Contract through ~June 2026 (possible extension or hire)
  • Level: Senior field technician / first-line team leader at Black Box

🔧 Core Responsibilities

You’ll act as a subject matter expert in structured cabling, including:

  • Installation, termination, and testing of:
    • Copper (Cat6, etc.)
    • Fiber optic systems (single-mode / multi-mode)
  • Rack & stack, cabinets, cable trays, pathways
  • Troubleshooting telecom/network infrastructure
  • Reading blueprints and port maps
  • Leading small field teams and ensuring safety/quality
  • Documentation, inventory requests, SLA compliance
  • Emergency support when needed

🧠 Technical Skills Required

  • TIA/BICSI standards knowledge
  • Fiber fusion splicing (high strand count ribbon)
  • Testing tools (Fluke DSX-8000, OTDR, VFL)
  • Network device troubleshooting
  • Experience with router installs (e.g., Cisco Systems preferred)
  • Life safety and building code awareness

🎓 Experience & Certifications

Minimum:

  • 5+ years in low-voltage or structured cabling
  • Proven fiber & copper installation/testing
  • Blueprint reading and mechanical aptitude

Preferred:

  • BICSI Technician certification
  • Vendor certifications (Corning, Panduit, CommScope, etc.)
  • Associate degree or technical certification

👥 Leadership Expectations

Tech III is considered:

  • First level of field leadership
  • Responsible for safety → quality → production priority
  • Able to work independently or lead a crew
