About the Role
The Community Health Educator I / Outreach Coordinator plays a key role in promoting public health programs through community outreach, education, and engagement. You will coordinate and implement health education initiatives, form partnerships with community organizations, and serve as a resource for health information and program awareness. This position requires creativity, independence, and the ability to build strong community relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and assist healthcare personnel (nurses, physicians, social workers) in planning and implementing health education programs.
- Develop, assemble, and distribute health education materials to schools, agencies, and community organizations.
- Visit schools, organizations, and professional groups to provide health education and encourage participation in public health programs.
- Offer consultative services to educators, day care centers, private companies, and other public agencies on health education methods.
- Serve as media liaison for public health programs; prepare and release educational and informational stories.
- Plan, develop, and conduct workshops, training sessions, and educational events for public groups.
- Operate and maintain mobile outreach units for community events and health fairs.
- Use scheduling software, spreadsheets, and digital tools to manage outreach activities.
- Lift, load, and transport outreach materials and equipment as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Education or related field, OR
- Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of on-the-job training as a public health educator.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience safely operating, transporting, and maintaining mobile outreach units.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record compatible with county requirements.
- Knowledge of community resources and local public health programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and collaborate across community agencies.
