About the Role:

WakeMed is seeking a skilled and detail-focused Outpatient Coder to support our Home Health Administration department. As an integral part of our revenue cycle team, you will ensure accurate and compliant coding of outpatient medical records, with a focus on home health services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review outpatient clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
  • Ensure compliance with federal coding guidelines and WakeMed’s policies
  • Abstract relevant data and maintain integrity of medical records for reimbursement and reporting
  • Collaborate with clinicians and billing teams to clarify documentation
  • Support coding audits, quality improvement, and training initiatives
  • Maintain productivity and accuracy standards in a high-volume setting

Qualifications:

  • Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred)
  • Required Certifications:
    • CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or equivalent
  • Required Experience:
    • 1+ year of outpatient or home health coding experience
    • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology

Skills and Attributes:

  • Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Proficient in EHR and coding software systems
