Project Overview

We are building a ChatBot for Direct to U, a one-stop resource for parents and students navigating the college application process. Many students lack access to personalized guidance due to high student-to-counselor ratios and limited support windows. Our mission is to provide timely, budget-friendly guidance directly to students and families.

We are looking for a skilled developer to create a ChatBot using existing OpenAI tools, training it to provide accurate, helpful, and mission-aligned responses. This is not a tool-building project from scratch—the focus is on configuring, customizing, and training an OpenAI-based ChatBot to meet our needs.

Scope of Work

  • Use OpenAI (ChatGPT or GPT-4 API) to build the ChatBot framework
  • Customize and train the ChatBot to respond accurately to queries about:
    • College selection and applications
    • Financial aid guidance
    • Timeline planning and resources
  • Integrate ChatBot into a web platform (or messaging interface) for student and parent use
  • Ensure the ChatBot is aligned with our mission and tone, providing helpful and empathetic guidance
  • Optional: Provide documentation for ongoing adjustments and training

Requirements

  • Proven experience with OpenAI GPT API or ChatGPT integration
  • Experience training AI models or fine-tuning responses
  • Ability to structure and organize knowledge into a conversational AI
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Previous experience with education-focused projects is a plus

Deliverables

  • Fully functional ChatBot integrated with OpenAI
  • Trained knowledge base for common student and parent questions
  • Documentation for usage, maintenance, and further training
